SUMMARY:Leonkoro Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Leonkoro Quartet is an ensemble framed by brothers Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz on first violin and cello\, while Amelie Wallner on second violin and Mayu Konoe on viola form the inner voices. Leonkoro—from Esperanto: “lionheart”—is no accidental reference to Astrid Lindgren’s children’s book about two brothers\, a story that sets a heartfelt sense of comfort against the weighty reality of death—a theme also explored in many parts of the string quartet repertoire. \nThe quartet’s debut album\, featuring Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet and Robert Schumann’s String Quartet Op. 41 No. 3\, was released by Mirare in autumn 2023. SUMMARY:Impromptu: Jazz Pianist Patrick Lui on the ‘Kung Fu’ of Improvisation
DESCRIPTION:In its original etymology\, ‘kung fu’ refers to any skill acquired through extensive learning and dedicated practice. It is also where martial arts and jazz converge\, in which both exhibit the pursuit of mastery and meaningful exchanges. \nIn the second ‘Impromptu’ series\, Hong Kong jazz pianist and composer Patrick Lui and his band will captivate the audience with a Bruce Lee films inspired jazz suite. Joining Patrick are two extraordinary practitioners\, Hollywood martial arts consultant and Silat master Evan Tai and Ving Tsun master Jerry Yeung. Together they will share the mantras from their respective disciplines\, showcasing the ‘kung fu’ of jazz and martial arts: discipline and improvisation\, rhythm and timing\, styles and forms\, as well as flow and harmony.
