SUMMARY:Tao Ye Workshop Performance
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is inviting Tao Ye and his dancers to develop a collaborative piece over two weeks with students at SWEAT – Hong Kong International Dance Workshop Festival and Conference 2025\, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. \nBased on the study of a body in movement\, the artist invites participants to explore a system of circular choreography. The goal is to discover the endless possibilities of instantaneous change according to the law of inertia\, present in Eastern artistic explorations of physicality. At the end of the program\, on June 20\, a performance of the work created in the studio will be presented to the public. \nPart of Dance Reflections 2025

SUMMARY:(in/off) FRAME
DESCRIPTION:How does the image of the body transform from stage to screen? Christian Rizzo\, director of the International Choreographic Institute in Montepellier\, moves towards answering this question in a two-week workshop with local dancers. Using two cameras and a screen\, they will create a simultaneous double-fiction of dance onscreen and onstage. \nThe idea is to approach a live filmed dance piece while revealing the choreographic stakes of the actions to be filmed. How do you conceptualise the frame when what’s happening offscreen is still visible to the spectator? Which gestures are saved for the camera\, and which gestures are directed at the live audience? \nThree complementary frames of vision are considered in constructing the dance: the overall studio space\, the wide onscreen view\, and the close-up. The challenge is to use the image-capture devices to create movement-generating rules\, while paying close attention to the dance’s appearance in the three performance frames. \nIn May 2024\, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts are organising a two–week workshop for Master of Fine Arts students led by choreographer Christian Rizzo. The workshop will culminate in an open studio presentation in collaboration with French May Arts Festival 2024.

SUMMARY:Part to Part (Hidden Life of Forms) by Ola Maciejewska
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, Dance Reflection by Van Cleef & Arpels continues to pursue its commitment to transmission and education and is once again organizing workshops in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As a result\, students of the Academy will have the opportunity to attend a two weeks long course led by Ola Maciejewska. \nAfter presenting her work for the first time in Hong Kong in 2023 as part of the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels’ festival\, Ola Maciejewska is returning this year to develop\, over the span of two weeks\, a collaborative work with students of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Drawing on her body of work\, the artist\, assisted by Maeva Berthelot\, will lead participants in the exploration of the tension between dance and sculpture. Together\, they will choreograph a piece that will be shown during an open studio performance\, co-presented with The French May Arts Festival.

SUMMARY:LOVETRAIN2020
DESCRIPTION:A contemporary ‘musical’ for twelve dancers\, LOVETRAIN2020 is a choreographic ode to the sound and vibe of the eighties\, embodied in the utopic drive and epic groove of pop-synth duo Tears for Fears. \nFeaturing hits like Mad World\, Shout\, Everybody Wants to Rule the World\, Change\, and Sowing the Seeds of Love\, LOVETRAIN2020 unfolds within a charged space of references\, counterpoints\, and endless possibilities. From different angles\, movement and sound interact to reveal the obvious yet often overlooked ways people come together\, drift apart\, push\, pull\, question\, and resolutely move forward. Return to the glorious decade of flashy fashions and exuberant pop with Emanuel Gat Dance. \nPart of the French May Arts Festival 2024 and Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels
