Vanessa Lam and Kayla Lui: Stargazers

Gallery by the Harbour presents “Stargazers” The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme’s Graduate Joint Exhibition 2022. The two recent graduates Kayla Lui and Vanessa Lam are graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London and Goldsmiths, University of London respectively.

The exhibition highlights their works with a diverse media covering hand paintings, digital designs and installation which they have created in the past five years. Named by the graduates, the theme “Stargazers” mirrors their inspiration through the expression of illustration. Whilst there is a light humour alluding themselves to sardines in stargazy pies, “Stargazer” fits how the two graduates embody their work: the attempt in manifesting their ideals in a sea of abstract meanings, whilst remaining embedded and grounded in realistic contexts.

Over the years, The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme has been established to support talented and hard-working students with their universities’ studies and dreams pursuit. The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme will continue to encourage and support students to foster inspiring and engaging works with their creativity and bring positive energy to the society in various art-forms.

About the Artists:
• Vanessa Lam: Scholarship recipient in 2016, with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London;
• Kayla Lui: Scholarship recipient in 2016, with a Bachelor Degree in Illustration in Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London.
