(——): Vague Symbols, Visible Meanings

3 June 2023 - 28 June 2023

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Yrellag Gallery proudly presents “(——)” : Vague Symbols, Visible Meanings, a duo exhibition featuring interdisciplinary artists itit Cheung and Kate Cheung.

Kate Cheung’s works explore the role of line in literature, art, humanities, and society. The line represents the bridge between internal dialogue and personal growth. In contrast, itit Cheung’s works explore the symbolism of brackets and dashes. Brackets guide the content of remarks waiting to be filled in, while dashes represent an extension and transformation that connects memories and identity.

“(——)” offers visitors an opportunity to contemplate their own understanding of these concepts and connect with the artwork in a personal, meaningful way. The exhibition features a diverse range of styles, mediums, and techniques. Kate Cheung’s works are characterized by bold, flowing lines that move across the canvas with fluidity and grace, while itit Cheung’s works are delicate and intricate, featuring intricate line work and nature-inspired motifs.

The exhibition will open on June 3rd, 2023. The artists will be present at the opening reception (11 June, 5 pm), and light refreshments will be served. We invite everyone to visit our Gallery to experience more about the ideas of artists’ multidisciplinary approach and thought-provoking works of art.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Kate Cheung is a Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary artist who specializes in textile art, poetry, and film making. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Creative Media. Her works explore the possibility of poetry through the extensive use of techniques that combine textiles with visual and intermedia elements. Additionally, she has been chosen as one of the featured artists for both the 4th BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair and the 4th Hong Kong Book Art Festival. She has also given a solo talk at Lemna of The Alchemist.

itit Cheung, b.1994, is a Hong Kong-born Thai interdisciplinary artist, M.F.A. (Chinese University of Hong Kong) & B.A.S. (City University of Hong Kong). His approach combines lens, installation, drawing, computer programming and performance. HIs practice evolves from the interconnection between individuals, technology, and environment, revealing the digital age and post-pandemic era about identities, rights, and diversities by incorporating pictorial methods into intricate introspection whose transformation is a stoic appropriation.
