Ross Caliendo: Dusk Ritual

25 March 2024 - 24 April 2024

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Celebrating the Hong Kong Art Month, Gloucester Arts Club is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated solo exhibition Dusk Ritual by acclaimed Los Angeles-based artist Ross Caliendo. This exhibition marks a significant milestone in Caliendo’s artistic journey and represents his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Dusk Ritual will be on view from March 25 to April 24, 2024.

Dusk Ritual presents a stunning collection of naturalistic figuration paintings that delve into the profound interplay between light, darkness, and the human experience. Caliendo’s exploration of themes inspired by the forest, animals, and the sky captures the ephemeral moments of transition and introspection found during twilight. Each artwork in Dusk Ritual is a testament to Caliendo’s distinctive style, characterized by bold brushwork, intricate textures, and a vibrant color palette.

The artist offers a surreal interpretation of the natural world, investigating the powerful tension created by the juxtaposition of vibrant colours and thick impasto. The convergence of realism and abstraction in Caliendo’s work creates a profound and thought-provoking narrative that evokes emotions and leaves a lasting impression. One of the iconic pieces in the exhibition is Untitled (2024), a captivating landscape painting depicting a forest scene. Caliendo skillfully employs a technique often found in his work, using shades of green and red to create a striking colour contrast. This vivid representation of nature from Caliendo’s perspective suggests a scene of meditation in the embrace of mother nature.

By presenting Dusk Ritual at its prestigious exhibition space, Gloucester Arts Club provides a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the convergence of artistic brilliance and cultural exchange during Hong Kong Art Month. During the showcasing period of the exhibition, an artist talk will delve deeper into the intricate themes and concepts behind the artwork. Hosted in the club, this panel provides an opportunity for deeper exploration and analysis of the ideas presented by the significant curators and art individuals. Further details will be announced on the club’s social media platforms.
