OBJECTS FESTIVAL

EVENT DESCRIPTION

This Dec, Enable Foundation invites Hong Kong citizens to celebrate wonderful creative outputs based on community-based activities. These results explored the interplay between objects (both living and non-living). These ideas were developed by 800+ young people and 2000+ members of the public since spring of 2022. These groups participated in Objects-Talk, a 2-year Empathic Ecologies Education project fostering public empathy with all non-human objects (both living and non-living) around us.

OBJECTS- FESTIVAL shares these co-existence ideas and launches the first OBJECTS-MAP, with data collected by 2 pilot districts in Hong Kong. Our goal is to raise public awareness of the seen but unnoticed objects/species living in local neighbourhoods, to map and subtly draw attention to the fact that we inhabit a planet where all objects/species and ecosystems are interconnected.

CARING OBJECTS IN OUR CITY
Jockey Club’s “OBJECTS-TALK: Empathic Ecologies Project” is a two-year pilot project and was officially launched on Earth Day (April 22, 2022). The two pilot districts were Sham Shui Po District (2022) and Wong Tai Sin District (2023). Objects around us “talk” or express themselves in their own natural language. The project sparks the public imagination concerning objects (living and non-living) things and local habitats and begins to nurture an ecological sensibility that can scale. From a responsibility for the local, to an awareness of the Anthropocene’s impact on the global survival of species and the sustainability of the planet. Through a design thinking journey of empathy and ecologies, inspired by the concept of Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO): a new theory of everything, the project engages youngsters to care about “non-human objects (both living and non-living” in our urban environment and stimulate innovative thinking for new ECO-possibilities.

ENCHANTMENT FOR THE CURIOUS
Results were showcased at the OBJECTS’ PLAYGROUND, a temporary pop-up co-creation show open to the public at the Artisan Lab on Luk Hop Street, San Po Kong. Launched in October, the show invited the public to come together and interact with those OBJECTS discovered by participants and ignite ecological creativities. This pop-up project will be developed into the OBJECTS-FESTIVAL to elevate the experience. This festive event is the final celebration of the project in which we are introducing of how humans coexist with other living and non-living objects, and thus find out how humans and all other objects can coexist with common prosperity. With the perspective of reworlding, a ten-day cocreation activity is curated at OBJECTS PLAYGROUND as a festive celebration with objects!
