EVENT DESCRIPTION
Crystals manifest a moment of stability in the ever-evolving flux of energy and movement. This nature may have resulted in people often drawing connections between crystalline solids and the magical, sacred, mythical, or the occult, solidifying with them their moment in time.
For her fourth solo exhibition Once It Sets, Nicole Wong preoccupies herself with crystalline solids, recognising the unceasing potential for transformation in their structures. A suncatcher curtain made with opal and glass beads, 3D prints of nephroliths sold as commodities, a projection of microscopic crystal structures, Wong traverses the world of matter and infinitesimal scales to deconstruct and rebuild juxtaposed meanings.
ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER
Nicole Wong (b. 1990, Hong Kong) acquired her Masters of Fine Arts from Chinese University in Hong Kong in 2021 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University in 2012. Working beyond the bounds of any single medium, Wong adopts a process-driven approach to investigate philosophical questions associated with time, the tenuous connections between words and objects, and the limits of communication. Often quiet and unassuming, Wong’s works invite introspective thought through their appeal to universal sentiments and desires. Deftly weaving together wordplay and double-entendre throughout her practice, Wong explores the connections between literal and connotative meanings, thus, entering the realm of semiotics through the use of everyday objects and common materials to question the relationship between a sign’s physical form its meaning.Details
