Museum Summit 2025

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China is staging Museum Summit from 28-29 March 2025. The aim of the event is to establish a platform for the global community to engage in collaborative dialogue, exchange expert experience and explore innovative solutions to the evolving challenges and opportunities facing museums worldwide in the 21st century.

This will be the fourth edition of the Summit, following the inaugural edition in collaboration with the Palace Museum in 2017, and subsequent editions with the British Museum and the Gallerie degli Uffizi in 2019 and 2023 respectively. For the forthcoming Summit, under the overarching theme of “Going Beyond”, LCSD has enlisted Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet as the international partner.

The museum landscape has evolved significantly in recent years, transitioning from the conventional functions of collection, exhibition, education, research and conservation practised in the past to the present-day offering of diverse cultural experiences for edutainment. Museums have continuously expanded their roles, pushing boundaries to stay pertinent and influential in the constantly changing social, cultural, economic, political and geopolitical landscapes. Today’s museums play multifaceted roles to reflect their transformations from the last century, adapting to societal changes, technological advancements while promoting sustainability, well-being and cultural dialogues. As a matter of fact, they have extended beyond physical walls to become dynamic cultural spaces that inspire creativity, facilitate dialogues and foster a deeper connection between people with cultural heritage and creation.

Museum Summit 2025 will bring together international museum professionals and cultural leaders to explore how museums leverage tourism industry and technological advancements, foster sustainability practices, as well as cultivate well-being in the community as part of the strategies to venture into the uncharted territories of the future beyond the confines of traditional approaches.
