Jockey Club Musicus Heritage Alive

27 November 2021 - 28 November 2021

EVENT DESCRIPTION

A total of three concerts will be staged at Tai Kwun’s indoor and outdoor areas on 27 and 28 November, 2021. At the two free concerts on 27 November at the Laundry Steps, each will present an unconventional work. The first concert will stage the world’s premiere of Over Time by Musicus Society’s Call for Scores winner Luk Wai-chun. Inspired by the history of Tai Kwun during Luk’s Artist-in-Residence program, this work incorporates both Chinese and Western instruments with electronics.

The second concert features Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s Nymphéa, a work originally commissioned by the Lincoln Center for string quartet and electronics.

Award-winning pianists Rachel Cheung and Colleen Lee will be joining Trey Lee and his ensemble at the JC Cube concert on Sunday, 28 November. Three Austro-German classics by Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms, all with a fascinating underlying linkage to patronage of music and the arts, will be presented to underline the importance of cultural patronage on the development of art.
