책 (Check)This Out! Korean Picture Books Online Reading

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, many offline functions have been cancelled. In order to let children and parents to enjoy more parent-child time at home, and also to share Korean picture book culture, Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong is going to hold an online reading event, which named <책(Check) This Out!>.

The word ‘책’, means ‘book’ in Korean.

At 12pm every Thursday, from 7th to 28th April, storyteller CanCanMa from ungoogoo Story House will read and present Korean pictures books to you.

Theme of the selected books – dinosaurs
During this event, the storyteller will read aloud 4 picture books of Kyung Hye-won, a Korean female author — ‘Bigger Than You’, ‘Just a Bit’, ‘Elevator’, and ‘Special Friends’. One of her books – ‘ Dinosaur X-Ray’, was chosen as one of the 10 good books at the ‘18th Primary School Students Books Chart’ in Hong Kong in 2021. All the chosen books are related to dinosaurs. “At first, I drew dinosaurs just because they are popular characters among kids. But the more I draw and study about dinosaurs, the more I like them”, said Hyewon.

Well-known storyteller presenting stories
We are honored to invite CanCanMa, a well-known storyteller in Hong Kong, to read the stories for us. She used to be the host on a children program on ATV since 2014. Later, in 2016, she established ‘ungoogoo Story House’, and dedicated to promote picture book culture.

Lucky-draw event
In addition to this reading event, we have also prepared gifts for audiences.
